Revolt of Banda Bairagi (Banda Bahadur)

  • After the death of Aurangzeb on 3rd March, 1707 AD, many revolts arose in various regions of Haryana. Taking advantage of this, Banda Bairagi rebelled against the Mughals in 1709-10 AD. During the rebellion, he made Sihrikhanda village near Sonipat as his headquarters.
  • Banda Bairagi renounced himself and took the path of war at the behest of Guru Gobind Singh. Through the rebellion, he had conquered the area of Sonipat, Kaithal, Thanesar, Sirhind, Shahabad and Kunjpura.
  • On 22th May, 1710 AD, Banda Bahadur killed Vazir Khan, the Faujdar of Sirhind and took over Sirhind. He made Sirhind as the headquarters of the new state won in the war.
  • Banda Bahadur was defeated in the battle between Karnal and Indri on 26th October, 1710 AD.
